Domaine Hubert Lamy's Saint Aubin 1er cru Derrière Chez Edouard was planted in 1960 and is one of the few parcels of Pinot Noir in the Saint Aubin 1er cru appellation. This plot of barely 1 hectare has been the pride of the Lamy family for several generations. It's a very special climate for growing pinot noir, as the soil is composed of limestone and pebbles with an easterly exposure. As a result, the grapes ripen more slowly.

Philippe Mischler sommelier at Mundovin : This Saint Aubin cuvée is one of the nuggets of the Hubert Lamy wine estate. Olivier Lamy, the current winemaker, has succeeded in revealing the full potential of this terroir. Indeed, the Derrière chez Edouard climate requires more ageing time than the other terroirs planted with Saint Aubin reds. Oliver therefore chose to age the wine in demi-muids for around 18 months, to allow the tannins to soften and the limestone terroir to develop its characteristic finesse.

On the nose, the wine is subtle, delicate and fresh. Notes of redcurrant, cranberry, raspberry vinegar and a hint of herbs round out this fine showcase for the Saint Aubin terroir.

The palate is full of finesse, the tannins still a little tight in youth, but that's perfectly normal according to Olivier Lamy, who believes this is a great ageing potential wine of around 10-15 years. Still, the pleasure remains when tasting this wine, with its lovely notes of tart day-old fruit and a beautiful minerality, which is very rare in red wines.
