In the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Hubert Lamy 's red Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne comes from a parcel of vines, some of which were planted in 1950. This exclusive parcel of just 1.05 hectares tells the singular story of a climate conducive to red wines in this sector of Burgundy usually dedicated to Chardonnay. The shallow, stony clay-limestone soils, the east-facing exposure and the deliberately limited yields give the old Pinot Noir vines a finesse and intensity typical of the appellation's great red wines. Domaine Hubert Lamy applies the principles of organic viticulture to care for its plots, and harvests exclusively by hand. After total de-stemming, the harvest is left to macerate and ferment for around twenty days with its indigenous yeasts. Ageing continues for 12 to 18 months in used oak barrels, to refine the structure of this Pinot Noir and deliver a Chassagne Montrachet red of the highest quality.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Hubert Lamy 's Chassagne Montrachet La Goujonne is a singular expression of Pinot Noir in this sector of the Côte de Beaune, where reds remain rare. This wine, made from vines planted at high density, illustrates all the concentration of its terroir, and all the finesse provided by the limestone bedrock of the climate, with La Goujonne 's very special way of combining depth and tension. Domaine Hubert Lamy has created a cuvée of the highest quality, worthy of a decade of ageing to express the full potential of a Chassagne Montrachet red.

On the nose, the wine opens delicately with aromas of fresh red fruit, enhanced by airy notes of violets, peony and dried flowers. A background of undergrowth, a hint of smoke and a few spicy accents complete this very fine ensemble.

The palate unfurls a fine body, carried by silky, lacy tannins. Energetic acidity adds relief and lengthens the aromas of red berries, spices and undergrowth. The sapid finish prolongs the delicacy of the grain with an already impressive persistence. This Chassagne Montrachet La Goujonne will undoubtedly gain in intensity in a few years' time.
