To the south of the appellation, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets from Domaine Henri Gouges is one of the Côte de Nuits' most emblematic monopolies. Its 3.6 hectares, entirely surrounded by walls, have belonged exclusively to the Gouges family for several generations. A key figure in Nuits Saint Georges, Henri Gouges has been involved in the defense and recognition of appellations d'origine in Burgundy since the early 20th century, and this vineyard quickly became his spearhead. The name "Les Porrets" refers to an ancient term for its poor, stony soils, where a few clays mingle with pink limestone scree at the bottom of the slope. These naturally draining soils encourage the deep rooting of old Pinot Noir vines, and contribute to the structured personality of the wines. Our exacting viticultural practices are based on organic viticulture, and the grapes are hand harvested to preserve only the finest bunches. The grapes are then vinified with indigenous yeasts, before ageing in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets from Domaine Henri Gouges illustrates with accuracy and depth the racy style for which it is renowned. This historic monopole occupies the singular position of a premier cru that is both representative of the Nuits character and asserts a profile all its own, between structure and precision. This is a serious cuvée, made for ageing, where the natural power and straightforwardness of the terroir find a perfect counterpoint in the elegance and refinement of the Gouges style. And what's more, its complexity is on a par with the finest crus of the Côte de Nuits !

A rich, nuanced palette unfolds on the nose, with aromas of morello cherry, cherry pit and undergrowth. A beautiful spicy framework reminiscent of pepper and nutmeg enhances the bouquet with its vivacity and depth, while floral hints of violet add a certain delicacy to the whole.

The palate is dense and energetic, with impressively precise black fruit flavors dominated by Morello cherry and plum. The lace-like tannins structure the wine with uprightness, but above all give it gourmet chewiness and a remarkably sensual mouthfeel. Spicy flavors extend the tasting to a finish where the mineral, balancing framework of limestone lingers for a long time.
