The 2023 Bourgogne Aligoté Les Plumes from Domaine Rougeot Père & Fils showcases the full potential of this Burgundian grape variety. Produced using certified biodynamic methods and vinified without added sulfur, it captivates with its purity, freshness, and authentic expression of the terroir.
Grown on clay-limestone soils—typical of Burgundy’s lowland and hillside terroirs—this Aligoté fully expresses its origins. The limestone subsoil lends it a natural tension and lively acidity, setting it apart from the neighboring Chardonnay. Without any artificial interventions or adjustments, the wine allows the terroir to directly shape its profile.
Certified organic since 2020, the estate is committed to transitioning to Demeter certification starting in 2021. The grapes are harvested by hand, and fermentation takes place with native yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurs in oak barrels, followed by 12 to 15 months of aging in barrels that have held one to five previous vintages, without bâtonnage. No sulfur is added before bottling: a demanding choice that requires impeccable hygiene control, from the vineyard to the cellar.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin
Long considered a secondary variety in Burgundy, Aligoté reveals its full potential with this 2023 vintage from Domaine Rougeot. Barrel aging without stirring preserves the variety’s purity while adding depth. A pure and precise cuvée that showcases everything biodynamic viticulture can bring to this Burgundian grape. Best enjoyed at around 12°C in fine glasses to fully appreciate its freshness and balance.
The Nose
The nose opens with notes of white flowers and fresh pear, with a hint of citrus, accompanied by a subtle touch of limestone minerality. The profile is crystalline, fresh, and light.
Palate
On the palate, the attack is lively, driven by the crisp acidity characteristic of Aligoté. The texture is delicate, without excessive roundness. The homeopathic dose of added sulfur imparts a rare sense of purity. The finish is mouth-watering, with a mineral aftertaste that pleasantly prolongs the overall experience.
Bourgogne Aligoté is a regional appellation dedicated to this historic grape variety, grown throughout the Burgundy vineyards, from the hillsides to the plains. Grown on clay-limestone soils, it stands out for its freshness, lively acidity, and lightness. Domaine Rougeot’s Les Plumes 2023 reveals another facet of the appellation thanks to biodynamic farming, barrel aging without stirring, and winemaking without added sulfur prior to bottling. An Aligoté with character that deserves your full attention.
