Champagne Marguet 's cuvée Sapience 1er Cru occupies a special place in the House's high-end universe, at the crossroads of technical precision and a deep commitment to the living. This rare, elegant blend combines 68% Pinot Meunier from Cumières ( Premier Cru terroir) and 32% Pinot Noir fromAmbonnay ( Grand Cru terroir), from carefully selected chalk parcels. Born of Benoît Marguet 's desire to create a pure, unadulterated Champagne, Sapience is also the first cuvée to be grown entirely organically, a process initiated in 2009. Since then, the soils have been worked with draught horses, and the vines tended according to lunar cycles, in strict compliance with biodynamic principles. After hand harvesting, the juices are fermented in oak barrels, then aged on lees for nine months before resting for around four years in the cellar. No dosage: this Brut Nature cuvée by Benoît Marguet is a direct and sincere expression of the Champagne terroir.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Champagne Marguet 's Sapience 1er Cru is distinguished by its vibrant precision. It finds its balance between incisive freshness and subtle roundness, while displaying genuine mineral tension. Among Champagne wines, Sapience possesses a singular elegance, capable of revealing itself even more after a few years in the cellar.
The nose surprises with its precision and immediate complexity. The first notes are of fresh citrus, between lemon and grapefruit, crisp apple and light brioche. As the wine opens, hints of wild flowers mingle with the richness of candied fruit, bringing impressive aromatic depth. A smoky veil appears in the background, enriching the complexity without masking the characteristic freshness.
On the palate, the attack is vibrant and taut, carried by fine, perfectly integrated acidity that gives the wine a remarkable sparkle. The mid-palate is full and dense, expressing flavors of candied lemon, green apple, light honey and dry grass. The fatty texture provided by ageing in wood lends depth without ever smothering the mineral character inherited from the chalk of Champagne. The finish is long, precise and elegantly saline, confirming the ageing potential of this stylish Premier Cru Brut Nature cuvée.
