Wine Description
Clos Cibonne’s Tibouren cuvée Tradition rosé stands out as one of Provence’s most distinctive and skillfully crafted rosés: blended from 90% Tibouren and 10% Grenache, sourced exclusively from the wine estate’s goblet-trained vines—which have been certified biodynamic since 2019—it is produced on the 15 hectares of Clos Cibonne in Le Pradet, between Hyères and Toulon. The wine estate is one of the 18 Crus Classés of the Côtes de Provence. Nestled in the foothills of the Maures Mountains, facing the sea, it benefits from ideal east-west ventilation that promotes the health and balance of the vines. Legendary among discerning collectors, this cuvée is capable of aging gracefully for a decade or more.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The Clos Cibonne Tibouren cuvée rosé is a rosé unlike any other in the world of wine. What makes this Cru Classé memorable is precisely its ageing under a veil in century-old vats, which imparts texture, savory depth, and a subtle oxidative complexity found nowhere else in a rosé. The Tibouren grape gives the wine a herbaceous, coastal character, but it is the ageing under a veil that makes it unforgettable.
On the nose, notes of barely ripe strawberries dominate, mingled with aromas of blood orange, thyme, and ginger. Citrus zest, dried herbs, sea spray, and a slight smoky note round out this bouquet of great finesse.
The palate is full-bodied and generous, with firm acidity that indicates excellent ageing potential. The mouthfeel is vinous, smooth, and surprisingly mineral. The long, fresh, and coastal finish underscores the incomparable identity of Clos Cibonne with every sip.
