Wine Description

Savigny-les-Beaune rouge Les Grands Picotins du Clos du Moulin aux Moines is a wine of character, the fruit of a singular terroir between the Montagne de Corton and the town of Beaune. The Grands Picotins parcel, located on the outskirts of the Beaumonts de Chorey-lès-Beaune, benefits from a unique environment, where the soils, marked by the presence of rolled pebbles, offer excellent drainage capacity, enabling the vines to develop deep roots. This particular terroir is the secret of the finesse and elegance of this Savigny-les-Beaune, whose name refers to a unit formerly used to measure oats, grown in this parcel to feed horses.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, renowned for its terroir wines, lies in a strategic viticultural zone between the Montagne de Corton and Beaune, offering ideal conditions for growing vines. The Grands Picotins parcel, whose soil is rich in rolled pebbles, benefits from excellent drainage, favoring slow, even ripening of the grapes. The poor, stony soil allows the vines to draw mineral elements from deep within the soil, bringing great purity and complexity to the wine.

The nose is of great finesse, with aromas of fresh red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, accompanied by delicate floral nuances, evoking peony and violet. These fruity aromas are complemented by subtle hints ofsweet spices and light woody notes that testify to its barrel-ageing.

On the palate, this wine stands out for its perfect balance between freshness and structure. The attack is supple and the palate quickly develops depth, offering beautiful tension and a silky texture thanks to fine, well-integrated tannins. The aromatic palette unfolds with flavors of ripe red fruit and notes of damp earth, typical of Savigny terroirs. Remarkably long on the palate, with a mineral, delicately spicy finish that leaves a sensation of freshness and purity.
