Wine Description
Domaine de Montille 's Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Saints-Juliens takes root on the northern slope of Nuits Saint Georges, in the direction of Vosne-Romanée. Situated at the foot of the hillside, this exclusive climat nestles beneath the Premier Cru Les Thorey and owes its name to an ancient 6th-century chapel, whose location is still marked by a cross on the edge of the vineyard. On its 0.58 hectares of clay-limestone soils, Domaine de Montille cultivates its vines organically and biodynamically, favoring balanced yields and just-right ripeness. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, with 33% whole-bunch to preserve the energy of this Pinot Noir. After meticulous fermentation, ageing lasts twelve months, with around 20% new barrels, followed by a few months in vats to preserve the natural freshness of the Saints Juliens climate.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine de Montille 's Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Saints-Juliens is distinguished by a more floral and delicate expression than most wines in the appellation. This is a rare climat, whose finesse is surprising in this usually more assertive sector. Close to Vosne-Romanée in location, it offers a supple, harmonious Pinot Noir . Aux Saints Juliens by De Montille is aimed at connoisseurs seeking nuance and quiet depth rather than power, and will delight them with immediate pleasure.
On the nose, the wine opens with luscious aromas of red and black fruits, mingled with the floral delicacy of fresh rose petals and peony emblematic of Nuits Saint Georges Aux Saints Juliens. A touch of undergrowth adds relief and freshness. The grace that emerges faithfully embodies the signature of the place.
The palate opens with a refined, sensual texture, structured by fine tannins and finely controlled acidity. The silky texture delicately envelops the palate in red fruit flavors. The whole-bunch grape contributes a framework of fine spices, while the finish unfurls a persistent mineral freshness.
