Wine Description

Domaine André et Mireille Tissot 'sArbois Savagnin En Amphore is born of an uncompromising commitment to the purity of wine. In the Jura, on the clay-limestone slopes of Arbois, Bénédicte and Stéphane Tissot cultivate Savagnin according to the demanding principles of biodynamic viticulture. No herbicides, no chemical inputs, just living soil nourished by home-made compost, balanced vines and hand-picking at the right moment. For this cuvée, the wine estate takes the natural approach even further, using the ancestral method ofageing in amphorae. The aim is clear: to let the grape express itself freely, without the filter of wood or the intervention of oenological additives. The must is placed in large terracotta amphorae, buried halfway up the vat for gentle micro-oxygenation, with no topping-up or added sulfites. After six to eight months on the lees, the wine is bottled without fining or filtration. The result is a vibrant, unclouded Savagnin that embodies a contemporary, uncluttered interpretation of Jura terroir.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Rarely has a Savagnin been so straightforward, so mineral, without any austerity. The amphora reveals the wine's backbone, without obliterating the flesh. This is an exclusive but essential cuvée, a testament to the intuition and mastery of Bénédicte and Stéphane Tissot.

On the nose, the wine opens with powerful notes of candied zest and ripe, almost honeyed apricot. On aeration, deeper hints of walnut, hazelnut and sweet spices appear. The whole is pure, lively and bright.

On the palate, the tactile sensation is fine, with a fluid texture that glides smoothly. Complex flavors of candied citrus, lime-blossom honey and mild curry follow one another in a gentle dynamic. The mineral framework lengthens the palate, without seeking exuberance, towards a persistent finish. A hint of salivating bitterness reminiscent of almond calls for a second glass.
