Wine Description
Roucas du Domaine Hauvette is Dominique Hauvette's entry-level cuvée. Conceived as an embodiment of the Alpilles spirit, it is particularly accessible from its youth, thanks in particular to its subtle blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsault. Located on the northern slopes of the Alpilles, the vines grow on the rocky clay-limestone soil of the Baux de Provence hillsides. To convey the freshness of this terroir, Dominique Hauvette uses a gentle winemaking process: infusion of destemmed grapes, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts only, then ageing in concrete eggs. The result is a long-lasting wine with a low tannin structure, where the fruit expresses itself frankly.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Dominique Hauvette represents the best that Provence has to offer. His intelligence and talent shine through in his blends and winemaking choices, which always hit the mark. The Roucas cuvée was created with the aim of offering an easy-drinking wine in its youth, for both wine estate and IGP Alpilles enthusiasts.
On the nose, notes of macerated black cherries, juicy prunes and sun-drenched garrigue come through brightly. Spicy, slightly camphorated notes reveal the spirit of the terroir and the quality of the winemaking carried out by Domaine Hauvette.
On the palate, the wine expresses itself with the same intensity on black fruits, dried lavender, rosemary and licorice. The palate is full-bodied, without any heaviness, carried by diffuse, greedy tannins from which emerge black pepper and a hint of menthol. The whole gives off a sensation of suppleness that is particularly easy to digest, gourmand and profound.
