Wine Description

Grains d'Ambre from the Distillerie du Petit Grain is a marc of rare elegance, made entirely from Muscat à Petits Grains, the emblematic grape variety of the Saint Jean de Minervois appellation. On these clay-limestone soils exposed to the cool heights, Muscat takes on a new dimension, combining complexity, tension and finesse. The grapes come from the distillery's own vineyards, as well as from Domaine Montahuc and Vignoble du Loup Blanc. Part of the harvest is destemmed to eliminate excess vegetal matter, leaving only a subtle, controlled peppery structure. The distillation, carried out over an open fire in the distillery's traditional copper still, respects the pure expression of the grape variety. The name Grains d'Ambre evokes not only the coppery color of the ripe berries at harvest time, but also the aromatic richness of the grape variety, which this cuvée captures to perfection.

The nose charms with its floral and fruity radiance. Rose, candied lemon zest and tangerine are clearly present, followed by deeper aromas of white pepper, thyme and vanilla. A fine, airy complexity, typical of Muscat grown at good altitude.

The palate is ample, enveloping and luminous, carried by a soft, delicate structure. There are hints of vanilla, ripe exotic fruits such as lychee and papaya, and a fine zesty bitterness that structures the whole. The lingering finish is salty and delicately peppery.
