Wine Description
The wines of François Lumpp are unrivalled in their ability to reveal the finesse of Pinot Noir on the limestone soils of southern Burgundy, and this Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge from Domaine François Lumpp is without doubt the most telling illustration of this. Situated on the slopes of the Côte Chalonnaise, this 2.45-hectare parcel stretches across mostly south-facing slopes, where the limestone and fine marl soils forge a racy, naturally slender Pinot Noir . The wine estate maintains its vines by hand, with constant care and attention to detail, using scratching, light ridging and de-tavaillonnage to ensure the health of the vines. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, before being meticulously sorted for purity. After natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine is aged for twelve months in barrels, 70% of which are new. This precise, controlled passage in wood polishes the material without erasing the tension of the terroir.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : At Domaine François Lumpp, each climat is worked like a unique piece of art. François Lumpp 's Givry 1er Cru A Vigne Rouge is no exception. We find the precision and accuracy that characterize François Lumpp's wines: a balance between intensity and restraint, always at the service of the terroir.
The nose opens with aromas of black cherry and blueberry jam. Light notes of peony and licorice gradually emerge, accompanied by sweet spices and hints of cocoa. With aeration, the wine gains depth on a delicately smoky frame.
On the palate, the broad body is supported by a tannin grain that's still a little tight, but already elegant. The black fruit retains a lovely freshness, balanced by the floral and spicy notes of Pinot Noir. The fine, velvety texture of ageing carries through to the persistent, mineral finish.
