Wine Description

The Roc des Anges wine estate'sCuvée Isabal is a pure Carignan from plots planted in 1913 and facing north-east on schist slopes . This parcel is crossed by a mountainside path called Trabassères in Catalan. The schist terroirs are derived from the compression of pure clay rich in silica, giving a unique depth to this old Carignan.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Cuvée Isabal, formerly known as Trabassères, is the finest Carignan cuvée from the Roc des Anges wine estate and the pride of the Gallet family. It is traditionally winemaked in 35 hectoliter concrete vats, then aged for 8 months in tuns before bottling. This is a very long-lived cuvée , ideally requiring at least 10 years before drinking.

On the nose, aromas of ripe black fruit and black cherry are accompanied by spicy nuances and intense notes of garrigue. After 2 hours' oxygenation, the wine reveals notes of crushed strawberries, licorice stick and a touch of violet.

On the palate, the wine displays a fine concentration of fruit, with well-integrated tannins and a silky texture. A pleasant freshness carries the wine through to a persistent finish with fruity and spicy notes.
