This Montlouis sur Loire parcel is one of the flagship cuvées of the Taille aux Loups wine estate. It is made with grapes from the oldest vines. The soil is composed of sand, clay and numerous small flints. The south-facing aspect ensures perfect ripeness and freshness. Ageing takes place on fine lees for around a year to soften the vigorous acidity of the young Chenin. When drunk at maturity, 3-4 years after release, this wine displays a unique breed. The liveliness of the terroir lends radiance to the wine, which is based on minerality and finesse.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Jacky Blot 's Clos de Mosny is one of the oldest parcels he winemakes. This parcel, which he holds in monopoly, produces surprisingly precise wines despite its south-facing aspect. The very special ageing in ¼ new, ¼ one-wine, ¼ two-wine and ¼ three-wine barrels regulates acidity while bringing roundness and complexity. A bottle that needs to be prepared in advance, decanting obligatory when young and that can be kept for a very long time. For me, this is the greatest cellar-worthy wine in its range.
On the nose, the wine is discreet, subtle, full of minerality, pure and brilliant. Notes of wet pebbles and flint dominate, confirming my initial impression that this is the purest wine in the range. There's still a hint of ageing, but this will easily melt over time. A great wine of patience that deserves to be savored.
On the palate, the first sensation is quite similar to the nose, the wine is taut and chiselled. A nice fatness is gradually revealed, with smokier notes and a hint of brioche. Acidity is present throughout the tasting, as is the minerality that forms the main fabric of the wine. A saline, almost iodized finish, a magnificent wine from Jacky Blot.
