Champagne Marguet 's Ambonnay Grand Cru cuvée is one of the estate's most emblematic wines, embodying the refined balance between tradition and terroir. Located in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, in Ambonnay, the wine estate cultivates chalky-clay terroirs with vines over 40 years old, typical of this Grand Cru appellation. The vines are a blend of Pinot Noir (63%) and Chardonnay (37%), with each variety vinified separately in barrels. Benoît Marguet 's claim to authenticity has forged a vineyard where horse-drawn ploughing has been used since 2010, in order to preserve the integrity of the soil and respect biodynamic viticulture. Cultivation practices are therefore extremely respectful, with little or no added sulfites, wood fermentations and prolonged ageing on lees, reflecting a philosophy of minimal intervention to allow the full expression of the typicity of Maison Marguet and its unique terroir.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Champagne Marguet 's cuvée d'Ambonnay Grand Cru reveals a surprisingly authentic interpretation of the Ambonnay terroir. This already accessible Champagne stands out in the regional landscape of characterful cuvées. Evolving gracefully, its ageing potential will make it even more complex over the next ten years. An exclusive bottle - less than 3,000 bottles produced - but already a cult among connoisseurs.
On the nose, the cuvée opens with delicate notes of white fruit, enhanced by subtle citrus notes of lemon and mandarin. A mineral touch reminiscent of damp chalk completes this initial bouquet. This nose charms with its finesse, while offering an aromatic density carefully balanced by the marked mineral signature, which faithfully reflects the Grand Cru origin.
On the palate, the exquisite finesse of the bubbles immediately supports a creamy texture that avoids the trap of opulence. The attack is clean, carried by ripe acidity that reinforces freshness. The balance between the power of Pinot Noir and the tension of Chardonnay shows admirably in the aromatic concentration. Flavors of white peach and crisp apple mingle with fine pastry and sweet almond notes. Elegant minerality adds depth on the finish, prolonging tasting with an impression of purity and harmony, true to the spirit of Champagne Marguet.
