Wine Description
The Saint Joseph red Terre Blanche from the Monier Perréol wine estate is a unique cuvée that perfectly expresses the characteristics of the Saint-Joseph terroir. The Syrah vines, on average 40 years old, are planted on steep slopes composed of granitic and clay-limestone soils, nicknamed "terres blanches" due to the presence of limestone, which lends a unique minerality to the wines. This terroir gives the grapes an ideal balance between ripeness and freshness, with a beautiful expression of fruit.
The vines are cultivated according to biodynamic principles and yields are low, around 25 hl/ha, guaranteeing exceptional berry concentration. After hand harvesting, the grapes are carefully sorted and destemmed before natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place in oak barrels for 18 months, bringing structure and finesse without overpowering the fruit.
On the nose, Saint Joseph rouge Terre Blanche reveals a complex bouquet of ripe black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by spicy notes of black pepper, violet and garrigue. Subtle nuances of leather and black olives are revealed on aeration.
On the palate, the attack is generous, supported by fine acidity that balances the richness of the fruit. The tannins are refined and silky, offering an elegant texture. The long, persistent finish is marked by a saline minerality, reminiscent of the "terre blanche" limestone soil.
