Roland Velich made Blaufränkisch history with his famous "Alte Reben", grown on the Lutzmannsburg plateau. This terroir is also home to the Maissner vineyard, located on deep clay soil that ensures high water retention, particularly beneficial for Blaufränkisch in dry years. This link with the renowned terroirs of Horitschon or Deutschkreutz underlines its importance in Central Burgenland.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The warm, continental climate of this Maissner climate, combined with the rich clay and limestone soils, creates an ideal environment for growing Blaufränkisch. Grapes from vines aged between 40 and 100 years are fermented in open vats, including 10-15% whole bunches. Ageing continues in old 500-liter barrels for two years, without fining or filtration, and only 600 bottles are produced each year.

On first inhalation, connoisseurs immediately recognize the ripe character typical of Blaufränkisch. Ripe Amarena cherry aromas dominate, accompanied by a subtle acidity reminiscent of fresh blueberries. The wine is distinguished by intense, slightly tart black cherry fruit, tea-sweet tannins that reveal themselves in the aftertaste, and very well-integrated woody notes.

On the palate, the wine is both silky and structured, with delicate acidity and well-integrated tannins adding depth. Flavors of black cherry and red fruit blend harmoniously, offering a long, elegant finish. This Blaufränkisch shows all its richness and potential, and is particularly enjoyable when slightly chilled.
