Le Clos Rouge is Clos Venturi’s most exclusive single-vineyard wine, and undoubtedly one of the most precise expressions of Corsica’s mountain vineyards. Founded in 1901, the estate is one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture on the island. Clos Venturi, a single-vineyard cuvée crafted from the estate’s finest vines, embodies the most accomplished expression of this mountain viticulture, where every action is carefully considered to reveal the authenticity of the terroir. Located in Ponte-Leccia, in the center of the island, the single plot from which this cuvée is drawn sits at an altitude of over 400 meters, on well-drained granitic soils cultivated according to biodynamic principles , within a preserved natural environment.
The blend of this cuvée is based on a rare and perfectly orchestrated combination of three complementary Corsican grape varieties: Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, and Carcaghjolu Neru. Niellucciu contributes structure and length, Sciaccarellu brings freshness and aromatic complexity, while Carcaghjolu Neru—an ancestral grape variety—serves as an elegant unifying element with its refined tannins and subtle floral intensity.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: This Clos Rouge from Clos Venturi is a wine with aging potential rarely seen in Corsica. It combines precision in its aromatic expression with finesse in its extraction. It does not seek to impress, but rather to reveal the most authentic qualities that the terroir and grape varieties have to offer. It is the culmination of meticulous work, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, designed to capture and elevate the Corsican terroir without compromise. In this bottle, you’ll find a rare balance, precision in the blend, and above all, a sincere interpretation of Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu. It’s the kind of wine that speaks to you from the very first sip.
The nose opens with notes of ripe red and black fruits, blending red currant, morello cherry, blueberry, and a hint of fresh fig. Notes of thyme, myrtle, and immortelle—evoking the Corsican garrigue—along with subtle hints of sweet spices and leather emerge as the wine breathes. In the background, a more mineral note brings to mind warm rock and dry earth.
On the palate, the attack is full-bodied yet light, with a beautiful, controlled tension. The tannic structure is well-defined, giving the wine structure and a velvety texture. The fruit aromas are enriched by more earthy, slightly smoky notes. A sense of integrity dominates, underscored by subtle notes of white pepper and violet. The long-lasting finish reveals a beautiful, unpretentious energy that does justice to the Clos’s high altitude.
