Wine Description

Gourt de Mautens red from Domaine Gourt de Mautens embodies the unique approach of Jérôme Bressy, a visionary winemaker from Rasteau in the southern Rhône Valley. Refusing to limit himself to the appellation's specifications, he claims theIGP Vaucluse to preserve the freedom to work with sometimes forgotten grape varieties such as Counoise, Vaccarèse or Terret Noir, alongside the traditional Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. On the slopes of Rasteau, a terroir of choice for deep, powerful reds, these varieties find ideal soil: clay-limestone soils rich in rolled pebbles, optimal exposure and a semi-continental climate tempered by the winds of the Rhone corridor and the coolness of altitude. Biodynamic from the outset, Jérôme Bressy favors meticulous manual work, sensitive to the balance of soils and living organisms, and deliberately low yields - no more than 10 hectoliters per hectare! - to concentrate the expression of the terroir. This particular care is reflected in his winemaking, which is systematically carried out with indigenous yeasts, in concrete or stainless steel vats, or even in barrels or demi-muids. Long ageing in old barrels brings out the balance and natural depth of the vintage, without any make-up.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Gourt de Mautens rouge is a shining example of Jérôme Bressy's singular vision. A true artisan of the Rasteau terroirs, he has succeeded in imposing a personal interpretation of theIGP Vaucluse , producing wines that combine density, freshness and precision. This cuvée stands out for its remarkable depth and energy, transcending the opulent style often associated with the southern Rhône Valley. Rare are the wines that manage to combine such power and finesse, with an ageing potential that stretches over a decade.

The nose of this red Gourt de Mautens reveals impressive aromatic intensity. Delicate fresh raspberry and jammy black fruit aromas evoke the fine maturity of the grape varieties with which Domaine Gourt de Mautens signs its cuvées, while the Mediterranean garrigue wafts scents of thyme and rosemary. Aeration brings out umami notes of undergrowth and black pepper.

On the palate, the material unfolds with great brilliance, revealing an ample, velvety texture, almost caressing, carried by tannins of great finesse. Ripe red fruit mingles with hints of licorice and dried figs. The finish is spicy and mineral, leaving a masterful impression of complexity and balance. Powerful, opulent and fleshy, with a freshness that only Jérôme Bressy knows the secret of.
