Wine Description
This Vin de Pays du Gard interpreted by Remy Pédreno of the Roc D'Anglade wine estate is certainly one of the best in France. It stands out for several reasons. The first, of course, is its unique terroir of clay, silica and limestone, with many large pebbles on the surface. These pebbles allow the heat accumulated during the day to be transferred to the vines. The second is the grape varieties, made up of very old vines of Carignan, Syrah and Grenache. And third, of course, is the winemaker's expertise. Indeed, Remy Pédreno ages his wines for a long time without adding any woody taste.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Roc D'Anglade rouge is one of the wines that surprised me most during blind tastings. A wine that is often very austere when young. With time, between 8 and 10 years, it reveals all its potential. It's a great Languedoc wine when you know how to be patient. The 18 months of ageing also play an important role in the wine's balance and structure.
On the nose, the wine is quite intense, with scents of undergrowth, blackcurrant and wild cherry. After oxygenation, a hint of licorice and blackberry emerge. Great aromatic complexity develops throughout bottle ageing. At its peak drinking, the wine reveals all its splendor, breed and delicacy.
On the palate, as with all the wine estate's red wines, the attack is very silky, which is its trademark. A wine of character, yet delicate. Slightly candied notes and hints of sweet spices. A great wine of patience.
