Worthy Park's Jamaica Select Rum is the most accessible expression from a wine estate whose history dates back to 1670, making it Jamaica’s oldest distillery, nestled at an elevation of 365 meters in the Lluidas Valley, in the heart of the parish of Saint Catherine, surrounded by mountains and unspoiled nature. This molasses rum is distilled in copper pot stills, then blended from rums aged between four and twelve years in ex-Bourbon white oak barrels, a maturation range that gives this blend an aromatic richness and complexity far surpassing what its entry-level positioning might suggest. With no additives added before bottling, Jamaica Select reflects the authentic identity of Worthy Park rums: fruity, generous, and true to that unmistakable Jamaican character.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Worthy Park’s Jamaica Select Rum is the ideal gateway to the Jamaican style at its most authentic and accessible. This is a rum that makes no compromises for the sake of ease, preserving the fermented and fruity aromas that define the distillery’s DNA, while offering a roundness and smoothness that appeal to both the curious novice and the seasoned connoisseur seeking a generous, uncompromising spirit.
The nose expresses itself with frankness and generosity, revealing notes of ripe banana and vanilla, followed by a parade of tropical fruits, complemented by delicate hints of cinnamon. A hint of peppery rose and a subtle fermented note—characteristic of the Jamaican style—lend depth and character to this bouquet, which is both rich and authentic.
On the palate, the attack is supple and smooth, carried by a velvety texture that comfortably sets the stage for flavors of molasses, peach, and chocolate. The tropical fruit returns in full force, supported by creamy notes of caramel and toffee, before a smooth, woody finish rounds out the tasting experience with toasty and spicy notes that linger pleasantly.
