Arretxea's Irouleguy "Hegoxuri" is the wine estate's flagship white cuvée. The first vintage of this cuvée was released in 1998. It is made from a selection of small plots located on micro terroirs in Irouléguy. The 3 grape varieties present in this blend are Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng and Petit Courbu. The south-facing orientation of the vines is dominant on all the plots, and the particularly steep relief offers ideal protection from northerly winds. This results in perfect ripeness and, above all, superb balance, whatever the vintage.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Riouspeyrous family of the Arretxea wine estate attaches great importance to its terroir, which is an essential element in the typicity of Irouleguy wines. This cuvée Hegoxuri is a skilful blend of 3 different soils: schist, sandstone and ophite. Each of these soils contributes a different element to the wine, ensuring that the right balance is found. From day one, the vines on the Arretxea wine estate have been cultivated organically and biodynamically. Only plants and sheep have their place in the wine estate landscape.
The nose offers a rare combination of floral notes and citrus freshness. There are also delicate smoky touches and exotic notes (pineapple, mango). This white Irouléguy is a true olfactory voyage.
The palate is pure and round. The mineral structure is precise, and the spiciness is also present. The balance is provided by an invigorating acidity that perfectly suits this cuvée Hegoxuri, an exemplary wine in every respect.
