Wine Description

Domaine Sylvain Pataille's Marsannay L'Ancestrale is the estate's top cuvée, made from a blend of the oldest vines on the estate. The vines are an average of 70 years old, and are all located on the Marsannay hillsides. This is the only wine to be aged for 24 months, as the old vines require additional ageing to allow the terroir to fully reveal itself.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The cuvée L'Ancestrale is the singular expression of the Marsannay terroir and certainly the greatest wine of the appellation. It is 50% whole-bunch winemaking , which brings character and ageing potential.

On the nose, the wine opens with notes of tobacco, cedar and licorice, as well as hints of old plums and blackcurrant jam. The wine gains in intensity as it opens.

The palate is on a par with the nose in terms of complexity, revealing a precise, harmonious texture. The tannins are well present, still a little dry, but the palate is beautifully velvety, caressing the palate.
