Wine Description

Sylvain Pataille 's Bourgogne Aligoté Petit Puits embodies the purest expression of this grape variety, which has long remained in the shadows. This parcel-based cuvée ofAligoté comes from century-old vines planted in the late 1920s on red clay and limestone soils in Marsannay. The depth and concentration of the grapes offer a dense yet luminous interpretation of the Petit Puits terroir. The organic and biodynamic vineyards are meticulously tended, with light ploughing, hand harvesting and respect for the plant's natural rhythms. In the cellar, the Sylvain Pataille wine estate pursues its artisanal credo with spontaneous fermentation on indigenous yeasts, long ageing on fine lees, and measured use of new wood to preserve the identity of the soil and grape variety. The result, vintage after vintage, is more goldsmith's art than simple winemaking.

Philippe Mischler sommelier at Mundovin : Sylvain Pataille 's Bourgogne Aligoté Petit Puits is a model of balance and depth, restoringAligoté to its former glory. Far from the acidity that is sometimes attributed to it, it displays the concentration of old vines and the mineral tension of Burgundy soils, brilliantly magnified by the Sylvain Pataille wine estate through ageing of rare precision. This is a true wine of character, capable of evolving for several years without losing its brilliance!

On the nose, Bourgogne Aligoté Petit Puits opens with an elegant, chiselled framework of white fruit. Ripe pear and yellow apple intertwine with notes of candied citrus. Beautiful nuances of hawthorn and acacia flower mingle with the fruit, while herbaceous nuances and delicate minerality accentuate the freshness of the bouquet.

On the palate, the material flows energetically over a lively, straightforward acidity. The silky texture envelops the palate with a beautiful fullness, without losing the nervousness that is the hallmark of the wine estate's style. On the mid-palate, flavors of pear in syrup, cooked apple and citrus zest melt into a chalky framework of controlled tension. The finish is long and drawn out, carried by a saline minerality and a saline, slightly iodized persistence that leaves an impression of absolute purity.
