Wine Description

At the foot of the ancient chapel built in 1155 in Gevrey Chambertin, the climat of Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru belongs to the very closed circle of "petits" Grands Crus de la Côte de Nuits. The Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru of Domaine Trapet Père et Fils, which comes from a tiny 0.60-hectare plot, is renowned as one of the appellation's most complex and refined Grands Crus. The Pinot Noir vines, the oldest of which were planted in 1945, sink their roots into a shallow, highly draining soil of fine clay and limestone blocks. This particular geological configuration, combined with the warmth of the plot at the foot of Clos de Bèze, sculpts wines renowned for their finesse and structure. Domaine Trapet Père et Fils, a long-established Burgundy wine estate, practises biodynamic viticulture based on manual tillage of the soil and the search for precise vegetative balances. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, followed by natural fermentation with a majority of whole bunches, and meticulous ageing in new oak barrels. The result is a chiselled interpretation of this iconic Grand Cru.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Le Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru du Domaine Trapet Père et Fils is part of this exclusive fringe of Gevrey Chambertin, where power has nothing to envy to complexity. The climate carries a dense sap at the service of extremely delicate fruit. This subtle tension gives the wine a singular presence in the Côte de Nuits. The result is a Grand Cru whose identity can be read more in its staying power than in its brilliance, and which needs a few years in the cellar to achieve the harmony that only terroir wines capable of withstanding the years can offer without losing their precision.

The nose opens with ripe red and black fruit, with rich morello cherry, wild strawberry and blackcurrant jam. Floral accents of peony, violet and rose follow, accompanied by appetizing menthol nuances. Hints of cocoa, leather and fine spices coat the whole with an elegant patina that tightens the ensemble.

On the palate, the balance between the velvety texture and the wine's energy give it a character as racy as it is full-bodied. Ripe fruit stretches out over a tannic framework of great finesse. Spicy accents of licorice and sweet pepper prolong the mineral tension and undergrowth notes to a simply bewitching finish, which reveals the elegance characteristic of Domaine Trapet Père et Fils.
