Long description

Laherte Frères is a Champagne wine estate south of Epernay with ancient roots. In fact, this wine estate has been in tune with nature and its terroir for over six generations. The family estate was founded in 1889 by Jean Baptiste Laherte, who wanted to preserve tradition and keep the estate on a human scale. Laherte Frères consists of just ten hectares of vines, worked by hand or with the help of a horse. Most of the vines are 70 years old and have been renewed with the finest massal selections in France.

As the main focus of our work is in the vines, the Laherte Frères wine estate regularly ploughs the soil to aerate it and enrich its microbial life. Biodynamic viticulture was introduced with the arrival of Aurélien Laherte in 2004. At the wine estate, we don't under-harvest to preserve freshness. We prefer perfectly ripe grapes, with little or no sugar added.

Aurélien Laherte has chosen to divide up the 75 different parcels that make up the richness and identity of his champagnes. It's thanks to this method that we find a true expression of terroir champagne, with nuances and personalities specific to each one. What's more, Domaine Laherte is one of the few wine estates in Champagne fortunate enough to work with all 7 grape varieties authorized in the appellation, including the very rare arbanne, petit meslier and fromenteau.

In the vineyard, he favors aerated soils, energized by small-scale surface work. He is particularly adept at using plant cover, which creates a perfect balance between flora and fauna. In 2013, the winery was modernized, enabling the winemaking of individual parcels to be taken a step further, while also increasing the amount of ageing on laths, which adds depth and finesse to the champagnes.

All the cuvées presented here have their own distinctive style. We love Ultradition in Brut or Extra Brut, Le Petit Meslier, Le Rosé de Saignée Les Beaudiers, Rosé de Meunier or the sublime Solera 7 with several vintages from 2005 to 2019.

Laherte champagnes are resolutely contemporary, with multiple identities that delight our palate and our senses. Not to be missed, Aurélien Laherte is becoming a real star in France and abroad.
