Long description

The Méo-Camuzet wine estate is located in Burgundy on the Côte de Nuits. It is one of the oldest wine estates in Burgundy, with a history spanning more than 4 centuries. The Méo-Camuzet wine estate covers 17.2 hectares, most of which is planted with Pinot Noir. For the rest, the 3.6 hectares of white grapes are given pride of place, with Chardonnay expressing itself perfectly on calcairo-marl slopes.

Jean Nicolas, the winemaker who revolutionized viticulture at the Méo-Camuzet wine estate

It was Jean Nicolas who took over the running of the wine estate in 1983. He really gave the wine estate a new lease of life. At just 20 years of age, he was not prepared to become a winemaker, but agreed to give it a try. Little by little, he immersed himself in the workings of a wine estate, in the work of the vines and in winemaking. He has surrounded himself very well and is not afraid to ask for advice. In particular, he received invaluable help from one of the world's greatest winemakers, the famous Henri Jayer. He shared his know-how, techniques and the art of Burgundian winemaking.

An exceptional wine merchant

In 2003, Jean Nicolas and his sister decided to create a "haute couture" trading company. The aim was to better respond to growing demand and extend the range towards more accessible wines. Thus was born Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs, with a separate label. But Jean Nicolas' approach to trading is not traditional. He scans the vines for each vintage, and buys the standing crop. It's not just a matter of buying grapes, but of selecting parcels over several years.

An established reputation

Today, Domaine Méo-Camuzet is one of Burgundy's most renowned wine estates, and the team continues to work the vines with love and respect. The vines are worked without any chemical inputs or mechanical tools. Harvesting is of course carried out by hand, with several successive sortings to ensure that only the finest bunches are kept. The winemaking is also very hands-off, highlighting the different Côte de Nuits terroirs he owns. Notably their sublime Chambolle Musigny village and Chambolle Musigny 1er cru Les Feusselottes, or their Gevrey Chambertin. And let's not forget their superb Fixin 1er cru Clos du Chapitre and the extremely rare Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.

As you can see, Domaine Méo-Camuzet is one of the finest wine estates on the Côte de Nuits. It can be found in the finest cellars and on the finest tables in the world. The next generation is ready, as Jean Nicolas has had 3 children. A new generation of winemakers? It's still too early to say, and to write this page in the history of the wine estate.
