The Côte-Rôtie La Sereine Noire is a rare gem from the Côte Brune, where Syrah thrives on steep granite, schist, and mica schist soils. Vinified from fully destemmed clusters using indigenous yeasts and aged in old barrels without sulfur before bottling , this extremely rare cuvée ranks among the great wines of Côte-Rôtie , with peak drinking expected between 2033 and 2050.
Yves Gangloff is undoubtedly one of the finest artisan winemakers in the entire northern Rhône Valley. He is often described as an artist. He possesses a sensitivity and inspiration that are unique in the world of winemaking, and with good reason. What makes Yves Gangloff’s story so compelling is that it’s filled with all kinds of emotions. In fact, he started out playing rock music—specifically guitar—near the village of Condrieu, where he settled in the 1970s. Around that time, the native of Alsace decided to explore the world of wine and met Mathilde at Château D’Ampuis. She would become his wife and radically change his life. He became a farmhand at the Delas estate and, at the same time, took over a few vineyards in the area to make wine according to his own vision.
The adventure began in the late 1980s for Yves and Mathilde Gangloff. They finally decided to bottle their cuvées, which quickly became benchmarks in the region. They produced Condrieu and Côte Rôties that were both refined and elegant.
In 2011, they received some very sad and heartbreaking news. Mathilde passed away prematurely. Yves Gangloff courageously decided to carry on their life’s work with the help of his children, Loup and Elsa.
The wine estate currently owns 9 hectares of vineyards in the finest appellations of the northern Rhône Valley. Its Condrieu, Côte Rôtie La Barbarine, Côte Rôtie La Sereine, and Saint Joseph cuvées are simply extraordinary.
