Long description
Clos du Mont Olivet is a wine estate with a long history, dating back to the 16th century. It is to the Sabon family that we owe its renown. The Clos du Mont Olivet wine estate boasts some of the finest plots in Châteauneuf du Pape, as well as superb plots with a wide variety of terroirs in the Côtes du Rhône appellation. The plots are numerous and spread over some fifteen lieux dits. The soils offer a unique diversity. Rolled pebbles rub shoulders with white clay and limestone. There are even a few sandy terroirs, such as the famous Château Rayas. Thierry Sabon, the current winemaker, represents the 4th generation of the family.
His viticulture is meticulous and respectful of the environment. He seeks to reflect the terroir in his wines, using more or less new oak depending on the vintage. Clos du Mont Olivet wines are certainly the most accessible when young, and of rare elegance after a few years of ageing.
Its red wines are of the highest quality, starting with Rive Droite, a superb vin de pays. Then we continue with Vieilles Vignes, a great Côtes du Rhône, not forgetting the elegant Lirac. We continue with the inratable Châteauneuf du pape to finish with the extremely rare cuvée du Papet.
