Eric Morgat

Eric Morgat comes from a family of winemakers not far from the Coteaux du Layon terroirs. It was thanks to them that he developed a taste for vines and wine, and decided to take a crazy gamble in 1995 by creating his own wine estate when he was barely 25. He bought plots of uncultivated land in the Savennières appellation. The slopes he owns have the particularity of being composed of schist and volcanic stones.

Eric Morgat undertakes a titanic task in the vineyards and cellars to produce the best possible wines. He has experimented with many different types of winemaking, soil and vine tillage, and continues to do so to this day. He is constantly improving the quality of his wines thanks to his experience and the rigor of his work. This makes him one of the finest winemakers of his generation.

Eric Morgat has an exceptional winegrowing heritage located on the finest terroirs of Savennières, but he doesn't rest on his laurels and looks for new ways to express his talent.

That's why, in 2015, he created an exceptional parcel-based cuvée, Clos Serteaux, which we consider to be one of the finest wines in the Loire. He ages all his cuvées for a long time, so that they express their very best from the moment they are bottled. He doesn't hesitate to keep his wines for 20 months on fine lees, or even longer if necessary, as with the Fidès cuvée, available in several vintages.

For Eric Morgat, quality takes precedence over quantity, and nothing can go against this logic when aiming to produce a great wine. That's why the wine estate hasn't grown in a long time, remaining with just 6 hectares of vines and yields of less than 25 hectolitres per hectare. A sublime nectar ofabsolute rarity that will make only a few happy in France or elsewhere.
