Long description
Domaine Agapé was born in 2007 in Riquewihr, but its story doesn't begin there. It's rooted much further back, in a line of Alsatian winemakers where vines are cultivated not only on the surface of the soil, but also in the memory. At the helm: Vincent Sipp, heir to a respected name in the region, but also a free artisan, determined to write his own score. The aim is not to reproduce by taking over the family wine estate, nor to imitate, but to reveal. And so Agapé was born, from a Greek word that evokes the unconditional love of this authentic artisan-winegrower for the land, the wine, and the sharing that goes with it.
Today, the wine estate covers some ten hectares spread between Riquewihr, Hunawihr and Ribeauvillé. The Rosacker, Osterberg and Schoenenbourg Grands Crus form the backbone of the wine estate. Each sets its own pace: the Riesling Grand Cru Rosacker asserts itself with a chalky density and mineral length that assert the identity of the place; the Riesling Grand Cru Osterberg, taut and vertical, is carried by a framework of citrus and damp stone that needs to be left to mature in the cellar. These are demanding terroirs, but with exceptional clarity. And Vincent Sipp responds with measured gestures, careful application, without ostentation: organic cultivation, reasoned ploughing, indigenous yeasts, slow pressing, controlled ageing.
In addition to the Grands Crus, the Domaine Agapé range is divided into two distinct collections. First, the Expression cuvées: always single-vineyard, they stand out for their clean, chiselled fruitiness and freshness. Among them, the Sylvaner Expression Vieilles Vignes, taut and saline, reveals an unexpected precision in a grape variety that is often underestimated. The Riesling Expression embodies the limpid freshness of winemaking without artifice, where the fruit stands up straight without excess, while the Gewurztraminer Expression plays the intensity card in a version devoid of sweetness but not of character. On the red side, the Pinot Noir Expression impresses with its juicy freshness, between cherry and redcurrant, on a supple frame that at times recalls a playful Burgundy.
In the Hélios range, conceived as an elevation of substance and maturity, the Pinot Noir Grande Cuvée takes the grape variety to another altitude: polished tannins, ripe fruit, and an unexpected length for a red from Alsace. The Gewurztraminer Hélios, made from old vines that have been gently raisined, delivers a concentrated richness carried by remarkable tension, between candied mango, sweet spices and citrus zest.
The Agapé style is the quiet strength of grape varieties rooted in their terroir, where the winemaker's hand merely transcribes this dialogue to deliver authoritative wines that ring true.
