Long description

The origins of Clos Venturi: the heritage of Domaine Vico

In the mountainous heart of Corsica, on the granite heights of Ponte Leccia, an extraordinary vineyard tells a story of transmission, altitude and rebirth. Today, the name Clos Venturi resonates with connoisseurs of exceptional island wines. But its origins go back to another adventure, that of Domaine Vico, founded in 1901 by the visionary Jean Vico, who planted vines where no one else would: at the foot of the mountains, over 400 metres above sea level. In 2005, the Acquaviva-Venturi family at the head of the wine estate embarked on a unique parcel-based project: Clos Venturi. A selection of Domaine Vico's finest plots, worked biodynamically by hand and with the help of horses, became the beating heart of this new Corsican signature, where native grape varieties are reborn with panache.

The revival of traditional Corsican grape varieties

Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, Vermentinu, Biancu Gentile, Carcaghjolu Neru... Sometimes forgotten, often unrecognized, the ancestral Corsican grape varieties are the raw material of this committed and sincere project. Each hand-picked bunch is the fruit of patient, chemical-free work, respecting the rhythms of the moon. At Clos Venturi, biodynamic viticulture is not a marketing buzzword: here, nature dictates, and the winemakers listen. On soils of granite, schist and sandstone, in a climate where cool nights balance the heat of the day, indigenous grape varieties find their full voice.

In the cellars, winemaking is carried out without artifice, and indigenous yeasts work freely. Ageing is carried out in tuns, barrels or amphorae, respecting the natural balance of the juices. Far from rigid standards, Clos Venturi wines express their vintage with uprightness, precision and energy. They tell the story of their soil, their climate, their mountain.

Cuvées that tell the story of the island's terroir

The wine estate offers red, white and rosé cuvées. Some, like the Brama cuvées, reveal the singularity of a single grape variety in a pure, racy profile. Others, like Le Clos or Altare, embody the complexity of carefully considered blends, where each component plays its part without false note. Chemin de Croix recounts the courage of vines perched on steep hillsides where only manual labor is possible, delivering reds of rare intensity. Chiesa Nera, born of indigenous red and white grape varieties, explores the aromatic heights of a mineral and solar Corsica. And in 1769, named in reference to the battle of Ponte-Novu where the Corsican Republic lost to French annexation, Clos Venturi delivers a more accessible and immediate approach, without denying Domaine Vico's signature: sincerity, precision, and roots in a unique terroir.

More than a vineyard, Clos Venturi has become the emblem of a wine-producing Corsica that looks to the future without denying its roots. A place where indigenous grape varieties are not a relic of the past, but the promise of tomorrow's great wines.
