Domaine Gross's Rhapsodie cuvée is a vibrant, free-flowing, intensely expressive maceration wine, in keeping with the wine estate's biodynamic philosophy. Made from Riesling, Muscat, Sylvaner and Gewurztraminer grapes, this characterful white wine is produced with no added inputs or sulfites. The grapes macerate for a long time, around 22 days, to produce a deeply aromatic, textured wine, then matured for 12 months in foudre. This minimalist approach, respectful of grapes and living organisms, gives this cuvée its identity, breaking away from the classic codes of Alsatian white wine.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Rhapsodie is a jewel in the vast world of "living" wines, a wine that tells the story of the soil, the vine and the hand of the winemaker, without artifice. More than a wine, it's a sensory experience, halfway between white wine, orange wine and vin d'auteur. A bottle that will appeal to lovers of natural wines, curious to discover a vibrant Alsace, off the beaten track.
The nose is explosive and bewitching, blending aromas of white flowers, candied citrus, exotic fruits (lychee, mango) and subtle notes of black tea, chamomile and sweet spices.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, fleshy and almost tannic, yet retains a lovely freshness. The structure is dynamic, carried by a noble bitterness and a final salinity that gives it relief and tension. This is a wine of emotion, of sensation, that demands to be listened to as much as tasted.
