Domaine Rieffel's crémant L'Emprise is a blend of 50% Pinot Gris from the Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr and 50% Chardonnay. This cuvée is aged for 12 months in barrels and 4 years on laths. This is certainly a "haute couture" bubbly to accompany the finest occasions.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Lucas Rieffel has truly created the very best in Alsatian bubbles. Crémant L'Emprise is the bubble of the moment. It's almost impossible not to give in to the temptation to have another glass, so elegant, gourmand and precise is this crémant. Its prolonged aging on laths also gives it an extraordinary complexity.
On the nose, this crémant has aromas of lemon cake, chalk and exotic fruit, with superb vegetal accents reminiscent of hay. The nose evolves as the tasting progresses, becoming more and more open.
On the palate, the texture is ample, the bubbles tonic and crystalline. The greediness of the nose comes through in the middle of the palate, giving it a very complex, deep edge. We find the typical Pinot Gris aromas of Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr. The finish is marked by pretty bitters and a beautiful salinity. A high-flying tasting.
