Domaine Meyer-Fonné 's Pinot Noir Altenbourg is a high-precision cuvée born on the renowned Altenbourg vineyard. Located in the commune of Kientzheim, at the foot of the Furstentum Grand Cru, this singular terroir benefits from a south-western exposure and a warm, dry microclimate, particularly favorable to the ripening of Pinot Noir. The soil of Jurassic marl with limestone ooliths is rich, deep and draining, giving the wine a silky texture, good density and a balanced acid structure. Domaine Meyer-Fonné's vines are around twenty years old and organically grown, with controlled yields. Winemaking is also based on a measured approach, respecting the expression of terroir without seeking over-extraction. Ageing lasts around fifteen months in barrels of several wines, followed by three months in vats for complete harmonization of the cuvée. The result is a complex, well-structured, fine wine that combines power and refinement, evoking Burgundy as much as the best that Alsace can produce in reds.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Meyer-Fonné 's Pinot Noir Altenbourg embodies a perfect tension between ripeness, finesse of grain and expression of the soil. It marks a clear milestone in the qualitative evolution of the Domaine's Pinot Noirs, in the same way as Gallus, but with an even more pronounced telluric dimension. Much sought-after by enlightened wine lovers, this wine is regularly praised by critics for its consistency and precision. A true Alsatian signature, elegant and ambitious
On the nose, a fruity, concentrated bouquet reveals ripe, intense aromas of black cherry and wild blueberry. Complex, elegant notes of smoke emerge on the second nose, underlining the nature of the terroir.
A refreshing attack on the palate, structured by fine, well-presented tannins. Lively acidity reveals a bright mineral framework, providing superb balance to the dense yet silky texture. The finish is marked by the elegance and persistence of fruity and mineral flavors, leaving the palate with the memory of remarkable finesse.
