Wine Description
Domaine Agapé’s Sylvaner Expression Vieilles Vignes is one of the gems in this collection of single-varietal wines. Nestled in the heart ofAlsace, this Sylvaner comes from a vineyard plot over 60 years old, located on the prestigious Osterberg Grand Cru. Facing east, the old vines majestically overlook the Alsatian plain, drawing their energy from a soil composed of marl, limestone, and sandstone. These conditions ensure slow ripening of the berries, pronounced minerality, and remarkable structure even in its youth. The signature of the Osterberg Grand Cru is revealed here in a cuvée that is both deep and immediate, endowed with a vitality that already hints at its unparalleled personality.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Agapé’s Sylvaner Expression Vieilles Vignes cuvée is the perfect ambassador for this often-underestimated grape variety. The aromatic richness that emanates from this wine and its elegant tension reveal a true personality, capable of surprising even the most seasoned palates. Undoubtedly one of the most refined expressions of Sylvaner in Alsace.
On the nose, the wine opens with a delicate floral bouquet, blending white flowers and acacia petals. This is followed by generous notes of yellow fruit, where mirabelle plums, Reine-Claude plums, and yellow peaches come through beautifully. The whole is underpinned by a subtle hint of orange blossom, highlighting the freshness and finesse of this Sylvaner.
On the palate, the wine is clean and well-defined, with a lively attack that caresses the palate. A noble minerality quickly emerges, supported by a subtle saline tension. The wine displays excellent structure, offering a rich, creamy aromatic depth without ever losing its lightness. The finish is full of delicate smoothness, revealing the signature character of the Osterberg Grand Cru terroir.
