Wine Description
The Atout de Pique cuvée from the Pique Basse wine estate is made from a single parcel of white Grenache, a rarity in the Côtes du Rhône Village Roaix area. The vines are over 45 years old, and produce chiselled, fresh wines. Winemaking in demi-muids and in stainless steel bringsbalance between acidity and substance. A superb, high-quality wine from the Côtes du Rhône Villages Roaix appellation. A rare expression of white Grenache.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: L'Atout de Pique is a Rhône Valley white that stands out from the crowd. It's a wine with more energy, vivacity and minerality. The expression of terroir offers superb balance. Grenache Blanc is one of the most promising grape varieties, in my opinion, when worked brilliantly like this Côte du Rhône Village Roaix from the Pique Basse wine estate.
On the nose, the wine is very expressive, with notes of apricot, rosemary, lemon and grapefruit developing with precision. A hint of herbs adds freshness and the desire to savor.
The palate is bright, taut and fresh, with superb vivacity for such a southern wine. Lovely fruit brings harmony and nobility to this superb wine. The finish is saline, ending on mineral and slightly sappy notes that evoke gastronomy.
