Fleurie 2021 Jean Foillard | Beaujolais

Jean Foillard's Fleurie is one of the finest to be found in this appellation. It's still too little known among wine estate enthusiasts, but deserves a closer look. This wine is produced in the same way as Morgon Côte du Py, with strict sorting at harvest and Beaujolais-style winemaking (in whole bunches). This process lasts 3 to 4 weeks, to extract as much fruit as possible. This is followed by ageing in old oak barrels for around 9 months. There is no sulphiting or filtration at any stage of the winemaking process.

Philippe Mischler sommelier at Mundovin : Jean Foillard's cuvée Fleurie is a pure marvel, in the tradition of the great Morgons. It is distinguished by an extra touch of floral and exotic notes. The work in the vines and in the cellar is totally identical, only the terroir differs, but this is a "village" cuvée whose plot is located on deep clay soil that reveals great complexity, but patience is required as this is a somewhat austere wine in its youth that will reveal itself after 4 to 5 years in the bottle.

A true gourmet wine to be enjoyed alongside a fine piece of roast milk-fed veal, for example.

The nose opens with elegant scents of anise, grapefruit, a touch of iris and dried roses. It's a nose that reveals a very broad and limitless aromatic palette.

The palate is very fresh, with very little tannin but good acidity. There are lovely aniseed notes and sumptuous hints of blackcurrant and blueberry. The finish has an invigorating hint of minerality. A great wine to discover!
