Mâcon Cruzille white Aragonite 2022 Clos des Vignes du Maynes | Burgundy

The Mâcon Cruzille "Aragonite" from the Les Vignes du Maynes wine estate is an exceptional white wine, embodying the uniqueness of the Cruzille terroir. This wine is produced by iconic winemaker Julien Guillot on a historic parcel of land that once belonged to the Cluny Abbey and dates back to the 9th century. The "Aragonite" cuvée is a tribute to the clos's unique soil, composed of crystalline limestone rich in silica, offering a remarkable mineral structure.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The 45-acre plot is planted with Chardonnay from massal selection, with vines aged between 60 and 80 years. The shallow (5-50 cm) clay-limestone soil rests on a slab of mother-of-pearl limestone, giving the wine an intense minerality. The grapes are hand-picked and rigorously sorted. After slow pressing, fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeasts in 600-liter demi-muids. Ageing on fine lees lasts 10 months, without racking, and a minimal dose of sulfur (10-20 mg/L) is added before bottling without filtration.

Mâcon Cruzille Aragonite reveals a nose of great complexity, blending notes of ripe citrus fruit, white flowers, acacia honey and white-fleshed fruit. On aeration, aromas of sweet spices and a subtle touch of iodine enrich the bouquet, revealing all the nobility of the terroir.

On the palate, the attack is lively and precise, characterized by dazzling minerality and a slightly oily texture that elegantly envelops the palate. The mid-palate asserts itself with a perfect balance of freshness, fullness and tension. Citrus flavors mingle with hints of toasted hazelnut and gunflint. The long, persistent finish is marked by subtle bitterness and delicate salinity, evoking the limestone of the terroir.
