Domaine François Lumpp 's Teppe des Chenèves white Givry is in keeping with the patient, precise approach for which this great Côte Chalonnaise winemaker in southern Burgundy is renowned. On a steep, east-facing hillside, the Teppe des Cheneves limestone soil is home to a high-altitude Chardonnay. The land was once famous for its vines, but was transformed into meadows before the Lumpp family decided to replant it in the early 2000s, bringing a forgotten terroir back to life. The almost thirty-year-old vines are meticulously tended: clawing, light ridging, rational treatments and hand harvesting punctuate the season. The grapes are sorted by hand, then carefully pressed before fermentation on indigenous yeasts in vats, then ageing for twelve months, of which about a third in new barrels. This deliberately measured passage in wood brings a slight graininess and a fuller breath, without distracting the wine from its primary energy.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine François Lumpp 's Givry blanc Teppe des Chenèves expresses balanced tension, driven by the straightforwardness of the terroir and precise ageing. The mineral clarity typical of the Côte Chalonnaise is evident on the palate, making this cuvée one of the most accurate interpretations of white Givry.
The nose unfolds with delicate aromas of crisp pear, candied citrus and white flowers. A touch of iodine and white pepper reinforce the aromatic precision, in a limpid balance between fruit and stone.
The palate opens with unctuous white fruit and generous white flowers. The woody frame remains discreet, underlining the sensation of fatness perfectly balanced from start to finish by the acidic tension. The lingering finish reveals a fresh, lively mineral relief.
