Domaine Humbert Frères ' Bourgogne Côte d'Or is the ideal introductory cuvée to discover the precise, demanding style of the Humbert brothers, winemakers at Gevrey Chambertin. The clay-limestone soils typical of Burgundy guarantee both drainage and minerality. The old vines are cultivated with the same care as the crus communaux. Winemaking is traditionally carried out with almost total de-stemming and gentle maceration to privilege fruit expression over tannic extraction.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation was created to highlight wines from parcels located in the historic heart of the vineyard, and guarantees superior quality to the old generic Burgundies. Domaine Humbert Frères ' Bourgogne Côte d'Or is a proud representative of this, and a must-have for those seeking a fresh, fruity and elegant Pinot Noir, with a complexity above its rank while remaining accessible.
The nose is clean, lively and very fruity, opening with aromas of crisp red berries such as juicy cherry, fresh raspberry and a touch of redcurrant. The aromatic profile is sunny and immediate, with discreet notes of undergrowth and a hint of spice (black pepper) from barrel ageing.
The palate is supple, fresh and elegant. The structure is fine and harmonious, supported by vibrant acidity that guarantees drinkability and freshness. Tannins are fine and mellow, providing just the right amount of structure. Flavors are reminiscent of the fruit on the nose, with cherry and raspberry dominating the mid-palate. The finish is clean, persistent and very thirst-quenching.
