The Burgundy Côte d’Or Clos des Six Ouvrées 2023 from Rougeot Père & Fils is a Chardonnay from a monopole vineyard located in Meursault. Its name refers to the six “ouvrées,” which is approximately one-quarter of a hectare according to the old Burgundian measurement system. Vinified without added sulfur prior to bottling, this white wine allows the terroir to fully express itself.
The Clos des Six Ouvrées is planted on clay-limestone soils typical of the Côte de Beaune. The clay retains moisture and nourishes the vines, while the limestone imparts structure and minerality. Here, the Chardonnay expresses its natural integrity, allowing the terroir to come through with precision.
Certified organic since the 2020 vintage, the estate is committed to converting to Demeter biodynamics starting in 2021. The grapes are harvested by hand, and alcoholic fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, followed by 18 months of aging in barrels that have held between 1 and 5 vintages, without bâtonnage. This approach preserves the purity of the fruit and the wine’s aromatic precision.

At Rougeot Père & Fils, the Clos des Six Ouvrées stands out for its single-vineyard origin and great precision. Winemaking without added sulfur prior to bottling is in line with the estate’s biodynamic commitment. This 2023 Chardonnay, shaped by a sunny vintage in Burgundy, combines ripeness and freshness. To fully appreciate its finesse, serve it at around 12°C, without prolonged decanting, in elegant wine glasses.
The Nose
The nose opens with notes of white flowers and roasted pear, with a hint of fresh hazelnut, accompanied by a subtle citrusy edge. A delicate limestone minerality discreetly rounds out the profile.
Palate
The palate is clean and precise, supported by a refined texture without excessive richness. The Chardonnay’s natural acidity provides structure and a lovely verticality, while the finish lingers with a persistent minerality. A harmonious whole, full of understated elegance.
The Bourgogne Côte d’Or appellation showcases the terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, where clay-limestone soils give rise to wines of character. The 2023 Clos des Six Ouvrées from Domaine Rougeot Père & Fils is a fine example of this. Sourced from a single-vineyard plot in Meursault, this Chardonnay—cultivated biodynamically and vinified without added sulfur prior to bottling—captivates with its precision, freshness, and subtle mineral notes. An authentic Burgundian white, true to its terroir.
