Cuvée Simon du Clos Marie is the wine estate's signature cuvée. A blend of Grenache and Syrah with a touch of Mourvèdre. The terroir is essentially clay-limestone and situated on semi-slopes. This is a beautifully dense wine with an intense, racy tannic structure. A Pic Saint Loup that needs to wait 4 to 5 years after bottling to fully appreciate the full expression of its terroir.
Philippe Mischler sommelier at Mundovin : Clos Marie's Pic Saint Loup cuvée Simon is a superb Languedoc wine that rivals the most prestigious in the region. The vines are grown entirely according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture. Christophe Peyrus aims to express the full potential of his terroir by working in symbiosis with nature. The result is an increasingly surprising wine, vintage after vintage.
On the nose, the wine offers a lovely bouquet of ripe red fruit, oscillating between notes of raspberry and blackcurrant. But also hints of garrigue, wild thyme and cedar.
The palate is a perfect match for the nose, with sustained fruity notes. A fine tannic structure and hints of spice bring a touch of rusticity to the wine. The finish is persistent, ending on a touch of freshness with notes of black olives.
