Domaine De Montille's Volnay1er cru Les Taillepieds is one of Volnay's leading cuvées. The Taillepieds soil is poor, whitish and rocky. Its name derives from the fact that winemakers would quickly wear out their shoes cultivating this climate covered with sharp-edged pebbles. The steep slope, thin soil and particularly sunny exposure give Taillepieds wines an extra touch of finesse and elegance.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Another superb wine from Etienne De Montille. Volnay 1er cru Les Taillepieds is a synthesis of the elegance and straightforwardness of the Volnay terroirs. It's a racy wine, a little fuller and more powerful than the cuvée En Champans. It therefore requires longer bottle ageing to release its bouquet.
On the nose, this Volnay expresses a beautiful palette, between ripe Morello cherry, plum and more complex notes of chalky minerality. There's a certain richness and promising structure.
On the palate, the wine has a rather full-bodied profile, structured on greedy notes. The tannins are still a little firm, but harmonize the structure and acidity of this Volnay. A wine of great purity that will reward the patient.
