Domaine Huet 's Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux is a jewel of Loire Chenin from an exceptional terroir. Produced from the siliceous-clay soils of the Le Mont vineyard, this wine is the result of rigorous biodynamic viticulture and hand-harvesting in several passages, to retain only perfectly ripe grapes. Produced from the Le Mont parcel, reputed to be one of the highest quality on the wine estate, it derives its uniqueness from a terroir with remarkable characteristics: a soil of green clay mixed with layers of flint, capable of capturing Vouvray's daytime heat and releasing it at night. This unique thermal property ensures optimal ripening of the grapes, vintage after vintage, and gives this mellow wine an anthological concentration and aromatic intensity. Once the grapes have been hand-harvested and sorted, the winemaking process begins with spontaneous fermentation, using only indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes six months of careful ageing in old vats and barrels, to give it depth and a refined texture. This time in the cellar also strengthens its structure, enabling it to face the decades with serenity. As for its ageing potential, it defies certainty: some say 30 years, others 40. One thing is certain: its longevity is impressive.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The brood of Vouvray Le Mont seduces with its balance between richness and vivacity, perceptible from its very first years. This docility is explained by the concentration of grapes from old vines, and by the moderate presence of botrytis, which favors an aromatic complexity accessible even in youth. Ripeness is under control, with the airy freshness that is the signature of the wine estate's great mellow wines.
The nose is formidable from the moment it opens, fervently expressing aromas typical of Chenin. A racy blend of yellow fruits, including peaches in syrup, dried apricots and candied tangerine, and subtle, enveloping hints of flower honey and beeswax. A slightly lemony sensation reminiscent of lemongrass further enhances this aromatic profile. The whole asserts itself with finesse, without heaviness, in an elegant charm that's hard to resist.
On the palate, the attack is satiny, with a generous concentration of fruit. Just the right amount of acidity adds an invigorating touch and structure to the palate. Then come aromas evoking the comfort of apricot tart, acacia honey and Victoria pineapple. A hint of dried flowers and very fine spices sprinkle the palate with additional complexity. The finish, marked by remarkable mineral acidity, lengthens deliciously, leaving a harmonious persistence on the palate.
