Wine Description
Domaine Moreau-Naudet 's Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is born in a natural amphitheater where a variety of soils and exposures forge an expression unrivalled among the Grands Crus of Chablis. For over forty years, Domaine Moreau Naudet has cultivated a small 0.60-hectare parcel here, whose south-facing aspect and deep clay-limestone soils, rich in Kimmeridgian marl, give the Chardonnay a unique power. The old vines are worked without weedkillers or chemical fertilizers, and the grapes are hand harvested at optimum ripeness. Winemaking is carried out using indigenous yeasts, and the 24-month ageing period combines two-thirds in vats and one-third in old barrels and demi-muids. This patience in the cellar reveals a Chablis Grand Cru of captivating depth and precision.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Moreau Naudet 's Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is a great wine of emotion. Its balance and complexity are already impressive, despite its youth. As with all Moreau Naudet Chablis , prolonged ageing offers a harmonious reading of the terroir, where power fades in the face of finesse. Its richness and 15-year ageing potential make it an essential reference in Burgundy.
The nose opens with varietal scents that promise a highly complex evolution over the coming years. Acacia and honeysuckle blossom combine with white fruit and candied citrus, while a subtle woodiness continues to accompany the delicacy of discreet pastry aromas. The bouquet is a noble expression of Valmur's natural concentration.
On the palate, Moreau Naudet 's Valmur unfurls a rich, subtly unctuous body, perfectly balanced by very sapid acidity. The structure provided by ageing admirably supports the concentration of aromas, while a chalky, mineral framework stretches the wine's body through to a vibrant, long-lasting finish.
