Wine Description

Domaine Franck Balthazar's red Crozes Hermitage is located in the heart of the appellation on the "Les Chassis" and "Mercurol" terroirs. These terroirs are composed of rolled pebbles, clay and limestone. All vines are biodynamically farmed. The grapes are vinified as whole-bunches and macerated for two weeks to bring out the quintessence of Syrah. Finally, they are aged for 18 months in demi-muids to refine the tannins.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Franck Balthazar's Crozes Hermitage is superb value for money in the appellation, certainly the best. The search for balance is precisely delivered thanks to rigorous vineyard work and winemaking. Work in the vineyard and research in the cellar over many years is finally bearing fruit..

On the nose, the wine reveals notes of black cherry and blackcurrant. There are also hints of cumin and black pepper. The wine's generous, sun-drenchedcharacter is extremely appealing.

The palate confirms the olfactory sensations. There are lovely aromas of black fruit, a light peppery note and a touch of thyme. The natural acidity provided by the Syrah and enhanced by the detrital pebble terroir gives the wine remarkable balance.
