The Pied de Samson cuvée is a pure Viognier located on the upper slopes of the village of Condrieu on granite soil. The vines are planted at an altitude of over 300 meters and were very recently downgraded from the Condrieu appellation, much to our regret. Today, these vines are under the Collines Rhodaniennes PGI label, but are worked with the same care as all the other wines from the wine estate. This is certainly the best value for money Condrieu has to offer, as the quality of the wine is undeniable. It's a small Condrieu at half the price.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: It was a huge surprise when I tasted this viognier cuvée "Le Pied de Samson". It has all the characteristics we look for in a viognier from the Condrieu terroir. Freshness, greediness, an exotic side specific to the grape variety and a touch of minerality specific to the appellation. It's a wine that's more complex than it looks; blindly, it could be mistaken for a Condrieu. This is a wine to be enjoyed young, to take full advantage of its freshness.
On the nose, notes of apricot, candied lemon, rosemary and a hint of menthol remind me of a Condrieu. It's an olfactory approach worthy of the finest Rhône Valley wine producers. Power and precision.
The palate is fine, greedy, with notes of white peach, ginger and pink grapefruit. The minerality gradually reveals itself during tasting. The finish ends with masterful bitters.
