The En Barbi cuvée from Domaine du Pélican is a wine produced by the Marquis d’Angerville on one of the appellation’s finest terroirs. This vineyard faces due south and is sheltered from the cool Jura winds. The En Barbi terroir is so rich in limestone that the soil appears white. This characteristic also contributes to the wine’s minerality and greater aging potential.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Arbois En Barbi is a pure Chardonnay whose vines once belonged to Jacques Puffeney, one of the Jura’s leading figures, who sold his vineyards in 2014. The wine is aged using a very subtle combination of oak barrels, large casks, and stainless steel tanks to impart precision, richness, and depth. It isone of the finest Chardonnays from the Jura , though it is not yet widely known to the general public.

On the nose, the wine offers a vast aromatic palette. One discovers chalky notes, hints of ripe yellow fruit, notes of toast, touches of lemon, star anise, and even a hint of curry.

On the palate, the wine remains as refined and intense as ever. Its minerality provides a vertical structure that brings freshness and makes it very easy to drink. The wine’s complexity will only deepen with age. This is a wine that already lives up to its full potential and has a bright future ahead of it.
