The Autour du Cinsault cuvée from the Les Vignes Oubliées wine estate is one of Jean Baptiste Granier's most endearing wines. Nestled in the cool heights of the Terrasses du Larzac, this cuvée draws its substance from sandstone and schist soils at altitudes of around 300 to 400 meters. Cinsault forms the core of the vineyard, complemented by a small proportion of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. Once abandoned, these vines were saved from uprooting thanks to the initiative of Jean Baptiste Granier and his friend and neighbor Olivier Jullien (Mas Jullien), both convinced of their potential in this Languedoc terroir. Domaine Les Vignes Oubliées cultivates its plots naturally and organically, and harvests by hand, with rigorous sorting at plot level and in the cellar. Winemaking takes 15 to 20 days, with temperature control and partial de-stemming, fermented exclusively with indigenous yeasts. Around 20% of the wine is aged in demi-muids and barrels for 12 months, in a natural cave dug beneath the wine estate.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Autour du Cinsault from the Les Vignes Oubliées wine estate is part of the revival of Larzac wines. This cuvée embodies the balance of the Languedoc, between gourmandise and freshness. Its already open profile invites immediate consumption, while offering a harmonious evolution over at least five years. A magnificent demonstration of Cinsault 's potential to create elegant, easily digestible Languedoc wines!
On the nose, the cuvée opens with a bright, fruity bouquet of Morello cherry, crushed raspberry and wild blackberry. Notes of garrigue, spices and a touch of licorice add complexity.
The palate is supple, full of ripe fruit and velvety texture. Fine tannins give structure without overpowering, and the right amount of acidity adds freshness and tension. Aromas of wild berries mingle with elegant notes of violets and garrigue. The finish, with its hints of licorice and fine spices, envelops the palate in a sensation of elegant indulgence.
